Understanding Spreadability
Choosing a Lanicare™ Texture
With a little consideration, selecting a Lanicare™ product is both easy and fun! To get started, you'll just want to take a few moments to understand a little about choosing the right texture.
Its important to realize that all Lanicare™ products deliver medical (USP) lanolin. While lanolin is an amazing emollient, it also possesses a very viscous texture which, depending on use, requires modification for suitable spreadability and dissipation. So, we offer many Lanicare™ textures (appropriate for many skin-care uses).

Among these many alternatives, how do you select just the right Lanicare™ product (exactly suited to your needs and individual sensibilities)? Not to worry, its simple (and we'll give you a few basic rules of thumb to go by).
To begin, its useful to consider the relationship between texture and functionality. Why, for example, are semi-solid balms (thicker than pure lanolin) popular for lips, while lighter formulations are often chosen for legs and arms?
As it turns out, the reasons are pretty intuitive. Most people prefer thicker (more intense and long lasting) textures for treatment of local/small areas but thinner, lower-viscosity formulations (which spread and dissipate quickly) for broader areas of the body.
While these common preferences may seem a bit simplistic, they do offer a great framework for selecting textures. For most, they define a preliminary selection (based on the idea that our thinner products are often best suited for progressively broader areas of the body).
Given a preliminary choice, we advise consideration of individual preferences in making a final choice (realizing that all Lanicare™ products are great for ANY skin). The legend behind these icons is simple. The large drop with medical cross signifies ultra purified medical (USP) grade lanolin. A dark drop to the left signifies addition of pure wax (for products thicker than pure lanolin), while drops to the right signify addition of ultra pure oil (for progressively thinner formulations).
